Doctors: Gabrielle Giffords
'Not Out Of The Woods'

by Alexqander Burns - January 10th, 2011 - Politico

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has shown “no change” in her condition since the end of the weekend, physicians at the University of Arizona Medical Center said Monday, in a sign that the wounded lawmaker may have been spared some of the most devastating potential consequences of the gunshot wound she sustained.

Two days after Giffords was shot in the head during an event with constituents near Tucson, she continues to respond to simple external commands and there has not been any additional swelling of the brain.

“No change is good and we have no change,” said Dr. Michael Lemole, head of neurosurgery at the hospital.

Despite the smear campaign to blame the right for this tragedy, the real story is the battle for life going on in Tucson. There are also the personal tragedies of the people who died, or were injured - and their families, friends and loved ones. These innocents are being ignored for partisan political advantage.

Their tragedy is real. Our sympathies go out to them and we wish them strength in surviving this ordeal. It cannot be easy in this time of personal tragedy to have the source of their pain becoming simply another 15 minutes of fame for a psychotic individual, replayed constantly in the media.
