Bertie Taxes Raised In Secret Session

NEWS FLASH - In closed session last night, the Board of Education voted, I heard by a vote of 3 to 2, to have Bertie County spend 35 million dollars for new schools (they played around with the wording so it is not directly a vote on the 35 million, but the wording does not change what they want). This will require taxes be raised. The BOE strategy still appears to be to have the Judge order this so that the county has no choice but to raise taxes.

This vote is also a vote to close J.P. Law Elementary, Askewville Elementary and Aulander Elementary. This is completely at odds with the best process of educating, called community schools.

Is this how democracy is supposed to work?
